Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school. Over 85% of the students receive free or reduced lunches. I teach 4th and 5th grade gifted language arts. My students are high energy, just like most 4th and 5th grade students! These students are motivated to learn despite some of the struggles that go on outside of school for them. I want to offer my students an amazing classroom that is inviting and full of choices! My goal is to create a home away from home that promotes a place of learning, community and love.
My Project
The supplies in this project will be used to create a hands-on product that will target the skills needed to strengthen reading comprehension. Narrative writing skills will be reinforced as well. This activity will reach many different types of learning styles, while making learning fun throughout the process! After teaching the strategies and practicing the skills, the students will make six activities that will be glued into a "bag book" for study and reference. The paper bags will be transformed into a resource book, and the craft items will be used to construct and embellish the project! This is a great way to incorporate a reading skills review activity that is enjoyable and productive!
