The Show Must Go On.. Puppet Time

Help me give my students a dramatic play center using a puppet theatre that can also be used as a play store.

My Students

My students come to school excited to learn and full of energy every day! They are inquisitive about what we are learning. These students are just like every other kindergarten classroom, they are full of energy and spirit!

We are a PreK-1st grade rural community school with over 440 students.

Our teachers work very closely together to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students academically and socially. We are always thinking outside the box on how to attain and keep our students' attention while making learning fun and meaningful.

My Project

Students will be given the opportunity to be creative with their play, which in turn will develop higher level thinking, enhanced problem solving skills, and social skills. I have noticed over the years that play has been set aside for a more rigorous standard based classroom. Students are missing out on real life conversations with their peers and problem solving skills that develop as they interact. I would like to use play to help meet some of the common core standards and KIDS domains.

Play is a necessity for a young child.

The puppet theatre/play store will give my students the opportunity to use their imaginations while working in a small group to discuss their plans for play. If a group of students wants to be put in a play, they will need to work together and problem solve many ideas before they can put on the play. Some of the decisions would be: What their play will be about, what role each will have, and what materials will be needed. Students need a place to perform and puppets to perform with. This grant would help fund all of the above.
