My students need books to improve comprehension and reading fluency. We need binders to create a portfolio where we track our progress. We need an iPad to create media that couples with our learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We currently engage about 1000 students and our students come from an array of socioeconomic statuses. A majority of our students are Hispanic, and many students are English Language Learners, that strive when given opportunities to bridge language through the arts. As our students fight to learn daily in the city of Chicago, they are also at the mercy of the city funding our schools. This means not every school has new books or tech to even keep up with their north side counterparts. The kids have opinions and want to share them with the world. We are going to be worlikg on improving our reading comprehension, math facts, grade level content, goal setting, and bridging the digital divide.
My Project
My students are a group of 6-8 graders and I want to provide every avenue of success for them. As an inclusion teacher I have spent time in other people's classrooms. As a self-contained teacher I have a severe need for a class library and although this seems like a large chunk of books, this is the tip of the iceberg.
Multiple copies of books serve to provide opportunity for book clubs with 4-5 students where they can explore novels together.
The iPad brings us to the twentieth century and will provide students the opportunity to create media related to curriculum. It would also allow students to airplay their work to display to the class at large. I added pencils because no matter how many pencils we have we will need way more. Classroom pockets are to provide visual reminders of guided reading groups, class jobs, student of the month and whatever other cool idea we come up with as a class!
