My Students

Have you ever wondered how to grab a child's attention and hold it long enough for them to see the wonder that is in front of them? I am a science teacher that teaches 5th graders in Colorado. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds; many have come from public and private schools while the rest have been home schooled. We have a few students that are gifted as well as those that have physical challenges as well as those with learning differences. But all of them are ready for new and exciting challenges! Since this is our first year, I will be learning more about them this year.

To teach kid, its takes quick, short directions and high-interest, hands-on materials.

They need to be actively involved so they are learning and on task. If not, then there are discipline problems that have to be dealt with. I am excited beyond words for this teaching opportunity and am thinking of this year as an adventure! These students are excited about this new endeavor and are anticipating new summits in learning.

My Project

For students to learn more about their environment and observing outcomes of science experiments, they need to be able to see them; really see details. When using the eye loupes, they help transport students into their own private world. It is amazing how focused they become when distractions are removed from around them with a simple tool.

With your help, this project allows the students to focus, and see the wonders of the natural world in front of them.

Then, taking it a step further, they write about their observations and and draw their results to help make connections of prior knowledge to make the jump to the new knowledge ahead of them.
