Students in Philadelphia are resilient, unique, and ready to learn. This is one thing I have learned from teaching in the city over the last six years. The beginning of the year sets the tone for the rest of the year, despite any and all obstacles these students overcome. When students have a classroom full of supplies and resources, they feel more confident in their successes.
A new school year calls for new supplies.
With the current state of Covid-19, hand sanitizer, masks, and tissues are a necessity. These items ensure students are in school everyday and learning. The masks will be stored in the basket I am asking for, and they will always be available to students. Wearing the masks will enable students to work together safely in groups as they collaborate.
Decorating the walls with educational posters helps students remember the concepts they are learning about. Middle School is filled with earth science concepts. Students can refer to the posters while completing assignments or working with peers. They will also help them as they write about what they are learning.
Including posters with diverse scientists enables students to see people who have changed the world that look like themselves. This is unbelievably inspirational to these young learners!
