Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How would you feel if you had to sit for an hour in a science class to be lectured? What could you learn if you never had the opportunity to make observations, question, and carry out experiments to explore the world of science?

My students come from homes where parents usually work two jobs to provide for their families.

These are students whose parents work hard to ensure that their children go to school everyday and that they can someday go to college. Most of my students are English language learners who have the desire to learn and work hard everyday. Ninety-two percent of students at my school come from low-income homes. At my school we have created a family environment where all students help and motivate each other to learn and to do their personal best in every way they can. These students need to have the opportunity to have the materials they need to learn science.

My Project

Students will use the magnets to explore magnetic properties, compare various types of magnets, compare permanent magnets and electromagnets, describe how earth's magnetic field is similar to a magnet, and investigate the use of magnets in technology. They will use pocket charts to easily access their data folders that will contain their scientific experiment reports. The classroom organizers will allow students to work smoothly and efficiently by maximizing the amount of time they use to access materials and data.

Students will obtain a better understanding of how magnets work and their use in technology.

They will be able to experience hands-on investigations in which inquiry is an important role. Students will conduct their own experiments, come to their own conclusions, observe, compare, describe, infer, and draw conclusions.
