My Project
In first and second grade Music, we explore the Science of Sound; The science of sound used in music, known as acoustics, studies the production, transmission, reception, and effects of sound, including how musical notes are produced, transmitted, and perceived. Musical instruments are designed to produce and manipulate sound waves, often by vibrating strings, air columns, or membranes.
My students are always eager to participate in what we are learning and this can be done through the use of a variety of instruments and experiments to discover how they produce sound vibrations.
We discuss that the bigger the instrument and the soundwaves, the lower the sound we hear and the opposite, the smaller the higher the sound. I would like to add more science to the lessons to become cross curricular and to interest more students in various reasons why sound happens.
Our students come from primarily low socioeconomic households and including Science and the Arts in their lives at school adds to their education that generationally they may not have had a chance to experience. Help me provide another opportunity for my students to explore how and why the world works in interesting ways.
