Help me give my students a Science Fiction Library and a fun activity to explore analyzing, reading, and writing science fiction. This will be a class where science fiction is used to do research on real science.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to try and excite and engage students through the medium of Science Fiction about science and science research. We have a scientific research class and I'm going to be using the lens of Science Fiction to have students find a topic of interest like space travel, cryogenic sleep, wormholes, time travel, etc. and then research the real science behind these topics. Then have them go back and analyze how well the medium (books, movies, etc.) explained the real science.
They will need the science fiction books to research how science is portrayed and explained in science fiction.
Then they will research the real science through reading primary sources and reproducing & designing labs when possible. I plan to introduce literacy skills and work on building a love for reading though out the course as well. To do this I'd like to have a class library of science fiction books to have available for checkout and this would be a good start as I look to try and get donations to expand in later years.
The final project will be to write their own original science fiction with good factual scientific explanations behind the science giving students the opportunity to see science in a new way, allowing them to be creative and have fun. The game I requested, "The Plot Thickens Science Fiction", will be a great help in starting this process and will allow students to build stories together first to practice before they write their final projects on their own. This will hopefully reduce the anxiety of writing a big project by themselves.
I am hopeful that this approach will make science more accessible for those students that don't currently like science and help build a love for reading in the process.
