Help me give my students additional resources such as Greek and Latin Roots and Prefixes and Suffixes to help us better understand word parts in addition to working on fluency.
We would love your help in providing resources to meet the growing needs in phonics, phonemic awareness, and morphology (word study) in a fun, creative, and engaging way!
Science of Reading has taken precedent in education and in our third grade classroom!
The latest evidence has come to light that now connects the art of reading to specific strategies, allowing teachers and students to teach and learn with a purpose. I would love the opportunity to purchase new language arts activities aligned with the Science of Reading. When students have access to these resources, it will create confidence. Being able to pick words apart and understand their meaning (the study of morphology) helps students acquire meaning of derived and inflected words, which in turn promotes reading comprehension. Morphological awareness enhances students' existing skills by providing them with an additional tool to use when they encounter a challenging word. Third grade is the year where we move from learning to read, to reading to learn (comprehension). These materials will be used in whole group and small group instruction.
I strongly believe teaching all five pillars of literacy (Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension) plus language comprehension, spelling, and writing – to drive measurable gains for all students will help build a strong foundation for reading success!
