The Science of Games

My students need science quiz cards, bingo games, and 30 kaleidoscope projects.

Scientific discoveries are often sensational. Teaching science should be done in a sensational manner. As a classroom teacher in a high needs school, I am always looking for ways to teach science in an enjoyable and effective manner. Hands-on activities are always the best, yet 4th graders are faced with the task of learning many scientific facts in preparation for their science tests. Wouldn't it be wonderful to teach these facts in a game format? The Science Quiz Show would provide a venue for such an idea. Whole class participation would ensure that all students would be involved. Add to this, a healthy dose of competition (for we would have teams), and you can be sure their attention would be at its best! The quiz show may also be used as a center activity for student led small groups. This would also encourage autonomy while reinforcing scientific facts. I have also requested an assortment of science bingo games. These games would provide an additional way of teaching facts to my students. A bingo game can be completed in a short amount of time, so these may be used when we have 15 minutes or so for a group learning activity. The bingo games are geared for this age group with scientific fact as a basis. All of these activities would be used for many years to come by future "4th Grade Scientists." It is definitely a worthy investment. I would also like to provide a hands-on activity for my students. Creating their own kaleidoscopes would be an exciting center activity for each of my students. The colors and designs would entice them to study science with a new eye. Each kaleidoscope would be an original piece, owned by each student. Hopefully, they will serve as reminders of how science can be fun and exciting. Please consider funding this project. My 4th grade scientists would love to have this experience. Thank you.
