Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Inside the walls of my classroom, the only thing that matters is my students. They come to school each day knowing I am excited to see them, and I make sure they leave each day knowing they are loved. I teach in an extremely urban district in Massachusetts. Many of my students come from diverse backgrounds, and they have a variety of different needs. At one point I had 8 different languages being spoken in my classroom. Given the current climate of the world, it feels more important than ever to empower these young minds. They are our future, and they need to know they can and will succeed in accomplishing great things! No matter what challenges they face at home my students come to school every day and try their best. They cheer each other on and celebrate small successes as well as help each other with setbacks. They embrace diversity of all kinds and work to advocate for themselves and others.
My Project
I work with first-grade students who come from low-income families. It is very difficult for them to afford the basic school supplies they need for class. My first-grade students are motivated, kind, and love to learn! Now that they are back in school they need the right supplies to succeed. To help prevent the spread of Covid, each student needs their own supplies to keep at their desk. Having their own supplies will help keep them safe and healthy.
