My Project
Hello, my name is Benjamin Mahan, and I have the privilege of beginning my teaching career as the Band Director at our School in Bulls Gap, Tennessee. From the moment I arrived, the staff and administration welcomed me warmly, and I quickly discovered that I get to teach the best students anyone could ask for. They are talented, creative, kind, and ambitious. Every day, I am inspired by their desire to learn and grow as musicians.
Unfortunately, many of my students come from families where money is extremely tight, and purchasing their own instrument or even basic supplies is not possible.
This is heartbreaking because the students who need a voice the most are often the ones with the least access to music. I believe with all my heart that music is a right every child deserves.
To give my students that voice, it takes resources that Title I schools like mine simply cannot provide on their own. That’s why I am asking for your help. By donating, you are not just giving an instrument, reeds, or percussion supplies—you are giving a child the opportunity to express themselves, to find joy, and to discover the same life-changing power of music that shaped me.
I am not in the business of awards or accolades; I am in the business of giving students hope, creativity, and positivity. Many of my students face challenges most of us cannot imagine, and music can be the bright spot that changes their story. With your support, we can make that happen together.
