This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology touches every part of our lives, from how we communicate to how we play games. Yet, most schools fall behind when it comes to integrating technology in the classroom. How can I prepare my students to compete in a 21st century digital world without the right tools?

My 3rd grade students are inquisitive, creative, and enthusiastic individuals.

They have a passion for learning and a hunger for digital technology. Yet, they face several disadvantages. They live in a low income and densely populated community. They are English language learners, whose parents speak very little, if any, English. Many parents work multiple jobs and have little time or resources to enhance their children's education. Most of my students do not have computers or internet access at home. Furthermore, budget cuts have impacted our community as well as our school resources. Our only city library is in danger of closing. Our computer lab and school library have closed their doors due to lack of personnel. Unfortunately, it is my students who suffer. I want my students to have the necessary technological resources that many people take for granted.

My Project

The Lenovo IdeaPad Tablets will allow my students to do research for numerous projects across the curriculum. They will be able to access interactive websites for math and language arts. The tablets will reinforce concepts learned and skills taught through engaging games and use of computer software. Currently, I have 2 outdated desktop computers which are unable to access most interactive websites. I will be able to reach different types of learners and better assess student's understanding through multiple means.

Learning needs to be accessible, meaningful, and fun.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Tablets will support active engagement when students are eager to research a famous author or view artwork by Picasso or Van Gogh. They will have the opportunity for frequent interaction with games to review multiplication or problem solving riddles. Integrating technology into the classroom will allow me to better prepare my students to succeed in the 21st century world.
