FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Queen's classroom raised $355
This project is fully funded
One of my goals as an elementary teacher is to teach students how to express themselves through writing. I will have the opportunity to teach writing to about 40 second graders this year. They will be actively engaged in the Writing Process by publishing their own work in our writing and publishing center.
I want them to create clearly stated and readable pieces. I want them to learn the importance of editing. I want them to know that words are important in our contact with others. Students need to be given many opportunities to write.
In my class, they will learn that there are many reasons to write and many different ways to publish. With your help, my students will be able to publish stories (like a pirate story on student-made parchment paper rolled up and placed in a bottle) or write letters (like thank you letters or postcards to their families after a class field trip).
Our school has a diverse student body including many nationalities and low-income families. We are an Equity Plus school. I need to meet the students where they are and pique their interests in writing.
The materials that I am requesting will bring excitement to our writing center. Students will have a lot of choices for what to use to publish their work, such as paper with different colors and styles, a variety of writing instruments, and interesting delivery methods (bags, envelopes, book binding).
The writing and publishing center in my classroom is a place where I can share with my students that they have the right to write.
