My students need a projector screen, projector and an iPad to infuse technology into the classroom. I'd love to show them how math is used in real world settings.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm teaching Algebra and Geometry to 8th graders (wow). These students ask regularly "Why are we learning this? When do we need this? When will I be using this?" Being able to use technology to help answer their questions would be a dream come true.
Our school is very diverse (41% Hispanic, 28% black, 16% Caucasian, 11% Asian and 4% everything else).
We have many English Learners that need more visuals and hands on activities to be successful. These kids are great kids, they are motivated, want to go to college, want to help support their families and want to contribute to society. Our school feels like a family, we do the best we can with the limited resources that we have. Our students are grateful and are very aware of how hard everyone works to make a safe place for them.
My Project
The books shelves will be used for the new common core workbooks required for every student. The iPad, projector and projector screen will allow the students to project the work they've done as a group to the entire class as well as use the Internet to support their reasoning and model how algebra and geometry is used in the real world. There are also online simulators that can be used with the iPad and projector to show the students what happens to a function pictorially when manipulating an equation. Students will learn how the steps they do in class translate to real world application.
The donations to this project will improve my classroom by limiting the paper/pencil style of teaching to more of a technology driven style of teaching.
Students love when they can see a simulation how shapes transform into other shapes or watch a short clip on how engineers decide how to build a bridge. These items will change my students' lives for the better by allowing them to experience the wonderful careers knowledge of mathematics can give them access to.
