This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are dynamic middle schoolers who come to school excited to learn! They are highly motivated and self-directed, kind and hard-working. As our school’s teacher librarian, I have the unique opportunity to teach and spend time with students across all disciplines. I love being able to see how multi-layered, inquisitive, and fun they are throughout the day! My students are readers, historians, scientists, athletes, mathematicians, artists, writers, among so much more. Many are very active in our school and tight-knit community. They have a willingness to leave a positive impact in the world and always do so with a smile on their face! My students are happy to be in school and to be building the skills and strategies that they will use to grow both in their learning and in their lives as a whole.
My Project
It's so important that students keep their reading lives active during distance learning which is why our library is offering curbside pick up for library books! To avoid the academic slide and maintain good reading habits, the library is heavily promoting interest reading, but to do this, we need interesting books!
I often hear students say they don't like reading because it's boring, but what I actually hear is that they just haven't found the right book yet.
My goal is to find that right book for every student with high-interest, exciting, and trending titles!
The selected titles in my cart fit this description perfectly. Also, I recently had students take a survey to better inform my book purchases. My cart reflects some of the wants and needs of students and our library, such as including funny books like "Planet Omar: Accidental Trouble Magnet", and also fantasy books like "The Queen's Assassin." I can't wait to match students with these books!
