The Reading and Writing Connection!

My students need tools that will help them actively engage as readers. These tools will help them make connections in their reading and writing, as they become skilled writers of their own original pieces of writing.

My Students

My second grade students are anxious to become better readers this year. They love to read along with books. They enjoy talking about the books they read with their classmates, as well. Even though our school is located in a low income, often dangerous part of the city, my students are very positive and eager to learn. There is a wide range of reading abilities in my classroom, but every student is working hard to become a better reader and a successful student. I hope that I can help them become their best by providing them with the tools that they need to achieve their goals.

My Project

Students will use these supplies as tools to be active and engaged in their reading. They will use these tools to write about and draw about their reading as they make predictions, give opinions, draw conclusions, make inferences, and summarize what they have read.

My students can use chart paper to plan and create their own storyboards.

The crayons and markers will be used to illustrate their writing pieces. Students will write original narrative, expository, and opinion pieces also, using what they have read as a mentor text. Finally, they will share original pieces of their finished published writing with their classmates, teachers, and family. They will be so proud of their accomplishments!
