Exposing all students to complex storytelling and nonfiction text is one of the benefits of reading audio books. Listening along with these books can benefit students by introducing them to books above their independent reading level. In addition, listening along with audio books models good interpretive reading and teaches critical listening skills. It can highlight the humor in books and introduce new vocabulary. It exposes students to genres of literature they might not ordinarily consider. Unfortunately, many school budgets don't allow for headphones to read along with these great resources. While many students are avid readers, others struggle with reading. Reading along with audio books is beneficial to all readers!
