My Students

Hi! I am a primary teacher on the south side of Chicago. I am a dedicated, hardworking teacher. I am again faced with the challenge of making sure my students have all of the necessary materials needed so that they can succeed. I use all the resources available and sometimes that is not enough.

The students I teach come from a low income area, so a lot of times they come to school with no supplies.

A lot of the students I teach are far-below their grade-level in both reading and math. They are eager to learn if they had materials that were up to date and interesting. I provide my students with all I the resources the school has, but since they are below level, they need more support. With the cuts the schools are making they are not able to provide me with the extra things my students need.

My Project

These resources will help provide my students the materials needed to complete classwork, homework, class projects, and independent learning. I have had students tell me that they could not do homework because there was not a pencil or there were no crayons around. A lot of times the grandparents are raising these student and they are on fixed incomes, so they may not be able to get the needed supplies. With the pencils, crayons, and glue the students will now be able to complete their homework assignments. With the construction paper, I will be able to incorporate art into my lessons. I have noticed that the students that are having a difficult time academically, will excel in hands on activities such as art. Since there is no art at my school I always try to incorporate it in the lessons I teach. With the classroom library books I would have more age appropriate reading materials in my library instead of mostly picture books.

A donation of any of these supplies would make life for my students a little easier.

They will be able to complete their class and homework assignments without the worry of not having the needed supplies. This would boost their self-esteem and their learning potential.
