My Students

Have you ever opened a present on Christmas, only to find that it's missing the batteries? Arg! That's what it was like for us receiving an amazing set of light boxes from Donor's Choose only to find that the power sources weren't included. Please help!

I am a 7th grade math/science teacher at a Title I school.

Ninety-three percent of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch; seventy percent of our students are English language learners. In addition the language needs in our classroom, many students have special learning needs. Our school is dedicated to providing our students with the tools and education to prepare them for college. We work closely with the community and parents to prepare our students for college. In middle school the volume of vocabulary in math and science skyrockets, leaving many students feeling discouraged despite their desire to succeed. My English Language Learners and students with auditory processing disorders need visual aids to allow them to really get the concept first, then lay the vocabulary on top. We strive to provide our students with access to the rigorous science laboratory experiences they need in order to fully understand our curriculum and push their inquiry skills to the next level.

My Project

We are requesting power sources for a set of light boxes that will allow our students to work in groups to experiment with properties of light. These sets will allow our students to set up their own experiments and model of how light passes through the human eye. With technical fields on the rise, it is important that our students get experience working with technology in the classroom to push their critical thinking and inspire them to consider careers in science.

You will make it possible for my students to experience dramatic eye opening learning experiences.

Your support provides our classroom with a teaching tool that benefits ALL students.
