Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 26 dedicated 2nd graders. My students are very hard workers and even though of their surroundings in their neighborhood my students come to class dedicated to work. They know that once they step in the classroom they are ready to work and learn new content. I love when I see my students learn and apply what they have learned and stick with that.
I try to make all the lessons engaging and memorable for them.
When they read on their own they access their prior knowledge and approach me and tell me, “Ms. C., look we learn this silent k letter in phonics.” Or “Look, Ms. C., the author is persuading me.” When my students mention things such as these comments I become happy because they are learning. I would like to continue this experience for my students with resources that will help them experience learning using different ways. I would be grateful if you could help my students with our project that will help them make more connections to their history and real life experiences.
My Project
My students are struggling readers, but I will like to provide them with motivation to want to enjoy reading. Children are bright enthusiastic and are willing to learn if provided with the correct resources. This is why I would like your support to provide my students with necessities they would need to become motivated readers. Which they cannot achieve if they are not provided with the right motivation.
My students need Bag Seat Sacks to carry the books they will be reading and enjoying.
The project will also allow my students to use post it notes to write their anecdotes about their research while reading. Highlighters will provide them with a tool they will be able to use when highlighting something important while reading.
My students are only second graders, but I like to teach them skills that will be beneficial for them in 3rd grade. In addition, I want to provide them with bookmarks, pocket charts for their books, and stickers to become motivated in reading.
