My Students

My classroom is made up of 20 children from one of the largest K-8 school districts in Wisconsin. My students are full of energy and have "the want" to learn. We love to learn with singing, chants, poetry and movement. Although my students are six and seven year old, there is so much that is expected of them in and out of school. Higher expectations, a rigorous curriculum, and difficult home lives are some of the challenges that they face, but they always come to school so eager to learn!

Every day, my students make me smile with their curiosity, funny stories, and innocent ways.

We learn not only the difficult task of reading and math but how to be good friends and citizens. We learn to respect people and how to tie our shoes. Manners are not a part of our state standards but are a must in our classroom. To put it in a nutshell, we are learning to be good learners.

My Project

For many, many years as part of our creative efforts, my first graders make puppets out of toilet paper and a glue mixture. We perform short spoofs that make our audiences laugh. The only problem is that our stages are usually hand-made by Mrs. Stanek and usually fall, bend or crash during our performances. We work extremely hard on our performances only to have a mishap with our stages.

Having these strong, sturdy stages will help in our performances that will lead to creative play, not only during our puppet unit, but also throughout our school year.

How fun it would be!! They will definitely be put to good use and will stir up our creative juices in room 207.
