My Project

Covid-19 has greatly impacted our students and we are still working to help kids get caught up on some of the things they have missed out on. Due to the pandemic, most students (and people in general) were not as active as they had been before. Due to this, many are far behind on many of their basic movement skills that we learn/develop here at the elementary level. More so than just being active, students have missed out on many opportunities to grow together. Their social emotional skills, teamwork skills, and problem solving skills have been greatly impacted. Learning how to win, lose, and overcome challenges together in respectful and supportive ways is very important for our students to learn at this age, but we still have a lot to do to help with Covid'19s impact in these areas.

Having a variety of outdoor team/individual games will help nurture these skills in our students.

As we live in Alaska, we really try to take advantage of the time outside while we have it. This project will be a great way to get kids working together and being active as they get to know one another. This will provide some comfort to start the year for nervous students, and can also be used throughout a variety of other lessons as we move through the year. I've found that these types of games/activities have served my students well over the previous few years, allowing them to learn how to work together, and manage their emotions appropriately in difficult situations. I'm hopeful that you will approve this project and it will serve as another tool to help students reach their true potential!
