My Project
Think Again by Adam Grant for my 11th grade ELA classroom: By the time a student reaches their 11th grade English class in the state of Virginia, they are well aware of the importance and pressure of passing their EOC (End of Course) Reading and Writing SOL (Standards of Learning) test. As I plan my lessons to ensure they are gaining the skills and habits as readers and writers to reach their potential on the test (and beyond) I want to make sure to supplement traditional writing and reading instruction with a non-fiction text that is applicable to the ways I want them thinking (or rethinking) about standardized assessments. When I read Think Again this past summer, I knew immediately that I wanted to introduce some of these profound ideas to my students, for the arguments Grant makes about the power of rethinking can be revolutionary to them as readers, writers, communicators, and citizens. I hope that all of my students are able to hold this text in their hands as they realize the power of rethinking.
