The Power of Independence

Help me give my students an iPad they can utilize in many ways, including for self-monitoring to support on-task behavior and, ultimately, be able to complete their work independently.

My Students

I have a group of twelve unique students with diverse needs, personalities, and abilities. My students have diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Specific Learning Disorder, Speech/Language Impairment, Severe Sensory Integration, Anxiety, and Emotional Disability.

However, all of my students benefit from help with self-regulation and require sensory support and flexible seating options.

With the help of DonorsChoose.org, I have been able to almost fully furnish my classroom with flexible seating options and sensory tools to meet each individual child's needs.

My Project

I am in need of an iPad for my classroom and students. Among the many applications I can utilize for my students is an app called CellF-Monitor. This will allow my students to self-monitor their behaviors. The intervention includes cues, such as audio tone that prompts student to self-reflect and measure their behavior through self-rating.

Researchers report this intervention as beneficial to use across subjects areas, ability levels, and ages.

Data has shown positive results for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disability, and Specific Learning Disabilities.

Another app, ChoiceWorks, is an app that provides some very important functions - it allows you to create visual timetables very quickly, using photos and videos that the app comes with or with ones that you can photograph and import yourself. It also allows you to create emotional choice boards, providing students with clear pathways for emotional regulation choices that they can practice, as well as a waiting board to help students wait for their turn, or wait for an activity to finish.
