My Students

My students are a merry mix of all demographics. We welcome diversity in our classroom and celebrate all of the ensuing connections we discover. These audacious students yearn for challenges that extend beyond the classroom. They reach for the "reality" factor in their assignments as we connect our studies to the real world. I am constantly searching for creative ways to allow them this freedom and individuality in their assignments because when the classroom work is relevant to student lives, amazing things happen .

My Project

Many of my students come from families who struggle financially and subsequently have few or even no books at home. Often these students fall behind in reading. Graphic novels are a wonderful help for students who find themselves in this kind of a situation. The pictures in a graphic novel "scaffold" the reading and many of my students often "jump" from a graphic novel right into a full blown novel.

My students are wonderful and deserve a chance to succeed.

By encouraging these students to read though a graphic novel, we are setting them on a path to success. Thank you for your consideration.
