The Power of Book Ownership

Help me give my students the memorable opportunity to own a book, most of them for the first time! Students will be able to annotate directly in the books and then keep them when we're done!

My Students

We are a forward-thinking school with an administration team who supports innovative upgrades.

The students at our school are diverse- they are future scientists, artists, inventors, and educators!

They are our future leaders.

21st century students are learning in vastly different ways than prior generations. We must identify, validate, and support these differences if we're to continue our work as educators.

Our city has the largest concentration of military-related students in the world; slightly more than half the student population is receiving free or reduced lunch and nearly 60% are minorities.

My Project

Most of my students have never owned a novel of their own. The newest generation of students own video game consoles and smart phones, but unfortunately they don't often own books. Owning a book of their own could help build their love of reading and encourage them to read more.

This authentic book-ownership experience could change the course of their life!

According to research, students who own a book are 15 times more likely to read above grade level compared to their peers who don't own a book. Teenagers are among the most likely groups of students to not own a book.
