Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Church Point Middle School - Jr. Beta Club is composed of exemplary students mastering qualities in academics, leadership, and service to others. We are a Title I school with limited access to funds. I am seeking funding to allow these students the opportunity to partake in a two-fold field trip geared toward both education and fun, as many of our students have never been outside the Acadia Parish area.

The site is the Historic City of New Orleans where students can learn about Louisiana History - which is a part of the middle school Social Studies curriculum.

Students would be able to tour the site of the Battle of New Orleans - War of 1815 where Andrew Jackson’s army (who became the 7th President of the U.S.) won the day against the superior British force and much more, which would bring their lessons to life.

Paddlewheeler Creole Queen Historic Mississippi River Cruise - Est. $42 per student without discount

Chalmette Battlefield Disembark at the site of the 1815 Battle of New Orleans at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, where you can tour the Chalmette Battlefield including the Malus-Beauregard House and the Chalmette Monument before re-boarding for the return cruise.

Water and snacks are needed for the roundtrip field trip from Church Point, Louisiana to New Orleans, Louisiana. Students will have only lunch during the field trip.
