This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I feel so privileged to work for a district where students and teachers' safety is their top priority. As a result, I'm able to meet with my students remotely and provide lessons as if they were in school. And even though we may not be physically together, I feel we are connected as a whole; my students partake in classroom discussions and engage in our daily academic learnings as they would in a regular classroom setting. And even though I have first graders, I am very proud of my students as they have smoothly transitioned to this virtual learning.

My Project

In first grade, students need to develop their motor skills and develop their imaginations. And as a teacher who has been teaching for over twenty years, I see the importance in providing many opportunities for students to do so. However with our current situation where students are learning from home, it's very difficult for them to engage in many of the hands on activities; mainly because of lack of resources such as construction papers and colored papers as many of my students are from low income families. And with so many major holidays coming up, such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc., I feel the need to utilize this time for students to be creative, making things that are related to each of the holidays. They'll be making a Jack-o-lantern for Halloween, Santa Clause for Christmas, cornucopia for Thanksgiving, hearts for Valentine's Day, etc. And at the same time, students will develop their motor skills.
