Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a physical-education teacher at Lower East Side Preparatory School in Manhattan, and I am also a coach. In the off-season, there are very few activities for our students to participate in, and I want to create an opportunity for them to engage in an exciting and fun recreational activity. LESP is a school that serves students who all qualify for the free-lunch program.
The idea of this project is to set up a table tennis club. If our project is funded, it will give the students at my school an opportunity to participate in a recreational club and competitive table tennis, as well as giving the students an alternative to "hanging around" in the streets. These types of activities are essential for our students because the students live in urban areas that have high crime rates, and the longer we keep the students off the streets by providing after-school activities, the more likely they are to be more successful in life.
The first piece of equipment we need is a Centrefold 25 Sky Rollaway table tennis table. This will allow our students to have the right surface to play on. We will be asking for other accessories in other proposals.
Funding part or all of this project will guarantee that students will have something to participate in after school. Thank you so much, in advance.
