Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Chicago Public School in the Logan Square neighborhood serving 351 Pre-K through 8th grade students. Many of our families are low income and speak another language, and we also have diverse learners as well as a hearing impaired population. The art room is a safe place for these children to tell their stories. They learn to express themselves and to think creatively in a classroom where many of the lessons have a theme of tolerance, peace, and embracing diversity.
My Project
The art room is one of the rooms that sees every student in the school. With that, comes a lot of storage and organizational needs. Sterilite containers would make it possible to easily access and store an entire classroom worth of artwork and protect it from others who are creating.
When young artists are creating there are many steps involved.
Chart paper and poster makers make for clear visuals that artists can reference along the way. Having these materials will mean procedure charts that will last and can be reused for years.
Artists enter this room as young as 3 years old, and cutting is an essential skill to practice from the start. Having new scissors means less force and ultimately makes them safer.
Having visuals in an art room is a must. Card stock provides a much more durable and quality way to print images of artists and their work. It is also perfect for integrating student photographs in a collage!
