it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom consists of energy! Although our periods are 90 minutes long, I strive to plan myriad activities and experiences that students will remember for the rest of their lives.
My students want to learn but they need material to which they can relate.
Whenever we start a new book, it's pretty common to hear them utter, "I hate reading..." and have them love the book after the first few chapters.
Unfortunately, many books in our textbook room are outdated, damaged and missing. Finding a class set of novels is truly a task at times.
My Project
My students will use this novel and be able to write about their own lives. With PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER being an epistolary novel, I believe I can not only offer students an enriching reading experience, but offer them an example of how writing may be used in their varied experiences.
The writing and the reading that will happen when we use this novel will give them a novel that they will love.
After reading this one, maybe they will read another. And another.
My plan is to facilitate in them a love of literature. I can do this with brand new novels, sent especially to them.
