Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A digital document camera and LCD projector are visual presentation tools, which will enhance classroom lessons. I am a fourth grade teacher who works in a high-need community. I am responsible for educating students in math, reading, writing, social studies, science and word-study. My students commitment and eagerness to learn is evident in the work that is produced daily. Unfortunately, many of my students possess special educational needs. Utilizing technology is an excellent way of reaching students of all educational levels.
In most elementary schools making copies for required lessons can become an unplanned nightmare. The copy machines are often out of order, this is partially due to the enormous volume of copying that occurs on a daily basis. I feel that students should be able to observe the presentation of a lesson through the use of some type of projection equipment. When introducing or teaching a new strategy, I often use the over-head projector to project the pages from books. The over-head projector is an intricate part of the presentation of my lessons. Before I could conduct a lesson through projection, I must first copy the pages of the book on overhead projector plastic paper. If the copy machine is not working, then I am unable to copy the book pages unto the plastic pages. If I am doing shared reading with my class, I must first copy the book unto overhead plastic paper. If the copy machine is broken, then this can become an impossible task.
A document camera and LCD projector will make modeling lessons exciting and simple. The document camera will allow me to place the actual book or document under the lens of the camera. With the help of the LCD projector, the document could be projected unto a white board. These two exceptional tools will eliminate the use for copying any document on plastic overhead paper. The copying nightmare will be over. During science experiments, objects such as rocks, leaves, live insects and plants could be placed under the document camera for closer observation. During social studies, primary resources such as maps and documents could be projected live for my students. Learning will become realistic and personal, instead of unrealistic and impersonal.
Your generous donation will help to educate all learners, especially the visual and ELL learners. I feel that these amazing tools will create a realistic view of education to all struggling students.
