Ms. Prayer from Elizabeth City NC is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 2 heavy duty pencil sharpeners, a canister with pencils and erasers, and a treasure chest for positive reinforcement.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I ask my students to prepare their day by making sure they have at least 3 sharpened pencils. Which they so faithfully try to do, but lately instead of sharpened pencils they end up with pointless pencils, cracked pencils, and for some, half a pencil. We need a pencil sharpener that will work.
I teach a wonderful group of Fourth graders at a rural, Title I elementary school.
More than 50 percent of the students at my school receive free or reduced lunch. My classroom is one that is diverse in learning styles, cultures, and interests. It is the varied backgrounds of my students that evokes wonderful classroom discussions and allows my students to learn from their peers perspectives respectfully.
The pencil sharpeners will have a great impact on my students and our classroom environment. By having the pencil sharpener in our class, students will be able to quickly sharpen their pencils without worrying about destroying them. The canister of pencils and erasers will provide my students access to basic tools they need to write with. I will also use the treasure chest to reinforce my students' positive behavior by rewarding them for their hard work.
The funding of this project will allow my students to start their day on the the right point.
My students will be able to spend more time on task and working then fighting with our broken down pencil sharpener. So I thank you for your generosity and realizing that a dull pencil needs a sharp point.
