Mr. Kratzer from Shreveport LA is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 3 ASUS Chromebooks to complete our set of 6 and ensure each station has the same technology to enhance our study of the past.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The majority of my students are from low-income, economically-challenged neighborhoods across the city. Most are poor and come from broken homes or live with relatives other than their biological parents. Those who do live with their parents are latchkey kids, having both parents working. My 6th graders are 10 and 11 years old. The male/female ratio is 50/50 in my 6th grade classes. They are interested in rap music, the opposite sex, and video games. All the students speak English but are very fluent in slang.
My students are my inspiration as their expectations on life are not hindered by their socio-economic situations.
They are very optimistic about their ability to do anything imaginable. All of my students love life, especially technology. Social Studies teachers need today's technology to spark interest and encourage our students to learn from the past.
Because my students are from low income households their access to today's tech is limited or non-existent. This project to complete our Social Studies stations with 3 additional Chromebooks will enable the students to utilize the Google Suite and their emails for enhanced learning.
Today's tech will help me make the past come alive for kids who don't currently see the value.
This will make history relevant and engage our students. Technology can break down the negative stigma of history being "boring"! Please help me give these economically-challenged students the opportunity to achieve their goals and ensure they become productive citizens.
