Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My art students are in kindergarten through grade five, and our school is of the highest need. One hundred percent of the student population receives free breakfast and lunch. Though the school is high in need, it is also highly caring. Here teachers, support staff, and administration work hard to create a positive learning environment, and art is a crucial component of each student’s education. Student artworks are proudly displayed in our halls, and in community events including Art and Literacy Night, and in virtual art galleries. Annually at the Wadsworth Atheneum, a selection of our students’ artworks are displayed in the Hartford Youth Art Renaissance. Visual art is a language for students of all languages, an outlet of expression, and a problem-solving building block.

This year, however, my students cannot share their art supplies, and they are not all learning in person.

Whether they learn at home or in person, each student needs their own materials, but I do not presently have enough on hand for all of my students. For my home bound and hybrid learners, please help.

My Project

Though markers and paint are staple art supplies, I do not have enough to provide each student. In this continuing era of covid, my students are not allowed to share supplies.

Please help give my students the free expression provided by paint.

My students will gain skills in using brushes and paint, with motor skill development, while also gaining skills at mixing paint. Markers and tempera cakes are both liquid mediums allowing more self-expression than useful but dry basic supplies such as crayons and color pencil. Where pre-kindergarten and kindergarten water play ends, watercolor painting in Art continues.
