The Outsiders is an engaging novel that students enjoy reading, especially towards the end of the school year. Reading The Outsiders helps keep the students engaged. They become invested in the characters and what happens to them helping to keep them focused and on task during the last few weeks. Having a class set of The Outsiders will help keep each student actively engage while we are reading. It will also make it easier for them to complete activities because there will be enough copies for each student to have their own in class.
Along with reading The Outsiders I will use lamination pouches to put together activities students can work on together, helping engagement and reinforce different skills.
For example, I have task cards students use to reinforce what we are leaning. They are able to move the cards around, matching them, allowing them to learn in a different way. Paper cards can rip and the ink fads. Being able to laminate these will make them last longer.
To help keep the novels newer longer I am also in need of book tape. After a while paperback book can wear out. By taping the spines of the books, it helps them to stay newer longer.
