The Other Wes Moore: Identical Names, Wildly Different Futures

My Project

"The Other Wes Moore" tells the story of two boys of the same name who grew up only blocks away from each other and how their lives unfolded.

In 2000, The Baltimore Sun ran an article on Wes Moore, a local student who was named a Rhodes Scholar--and after the fold, there was story about the other Wes Moore who had been involved in a deadly armed robbery.

The former goes on to become the Governor of Maryland in 2022. The other serves life in prison.

My hope is that students will think about the precariousness of life and how small choices make big waves. Moore even says "The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is that mine could have been his." The goosebumps! I want my students to feel them, too, as they read.
