This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a teacher in a low-income school, my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many hardships they face, they come to school each day eager to be challenged, and there is a sense of joy in the classroom. For many of my students, school is their only chance to engage in life-enriching activities. They love school and I want to make my classroom an enriching place for them.

It is inspired by a true story.

Students will connect reading and learning to their everyday lives. Chapter abstracts are short descriptions of events that occur in each chapter of The One and Only Ivan. Students will highlight major plot events and detail the important relationships and characteristics of important characters. The Chapter Abstracts can be used to review what the students have read, or to prepare the students for what they will read.
