Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students' greatest challenge is not having access to analyze and discuss a complete work of literature, as well as make personal connections to it.
My students are eager learners, ready for a challenge, and bold enough to take risks in their academic learning.
However, this is hindered by the physical and social environment around our school. Our school community is in the middle of factories, train tracks, and a freeway. This set up cuts off our students from access to libraries, parks, and even supermarkets. As well, there is a high violence rate, and a large gang presence. Yet, with all these challenges, my students come everyday, we have very good attendance, and put effort into their academic careers.
My Project
My students need stimulating books such as Sea of Monsters and Percy Jackson 5 CD that will challenge their imaginations and make them long life readers. The resources I am requesting will allow my students to continue to foster their new found love of reading an entire book. As well, they will continue to strengthen their analytical skills as they deconstruct a complete work of literature. Also, they will be able to infer the author's purpose and motives for writing this type of book. My students will also learn how Rick Riordan uses his ingenuity to connect the past to the present and make the story relevant to their interests, while at the same time addressing Social Science standards.
By sponsoring this project you will open a whole new world for my students and continue to stir their curiosity.
Right now they are unstoppable, and are already asking about Riordan's Egyptian series. Thank you.
