In a school where 100% of the students receive free lunches, there is no money for any type of math supplies. I teach very bright, Kindergarten students that are filled with mathmatical abilities, but I have no math manipulatives to reach into their minds and help bring out these abilities. This is why I need your help. Math is not just pencil and paper any more. It is filled with colors, carpets, and creativity. I am asking for a math carpet to "point out large numbers and mathmatical signs and to play games with." I am also asking for linking cubes, math games, and a variety of other math manipulatives that will enable my students to be the best mathmaticians that a kindergarten has to offer. With these manipulatives my students will be able to explore hands-on math concepts and much more. Some of these activities will include grouping, making sets, learning to tell time, learning to add and subtract(using a variety of manipulatives), etc. The list of learning possibilities could be endless with the manipulatives I am asking for. Kindergarten is the foundation of learning. If I have all the concrete materials I need, I can broaden my students minds and help them reach their full potential. Outside the classroom, my students do not have much to be excited about. Most of them come from single-parent, welfare homes. I want to make our classroom the most exciting learning environment possible for them. I want my students to get up in the mornings and be excited about going to school. Not only will these supplies help my students, other kindergarteners will benefit from them. With your help, I know that these students will learn to be creative through their many math projects.
