My Students
My students come from very diverse backgrounds and attend a school that focuses on project based learning. As such, they are accustomed to working on collaborative projects and taking deep dives into several areas of our curriculum.
My students are at a dynamic age; they inquisitively view the world through lenses that are both curious and magical.
As their teacher, I am constantly exploring new ways to keep them enthusiastically engaged in all that we do. They always bring a lot to the table and never cease to amaze me.
My Project
The Odyssey is filled with lively illustrations that add to the complex and enchanting story. Gillian Cross uses illustrations in her adaptation of The Odyssey to tell part of the story, not simply mirror the text. The are reminiscent of Greek poetry. The adapted text is readable for middle grade students, with just the right amount of careful translations and paraphrasing.
In my opinion, this is the greatest epic from the ancient world and will enhance my students' knowledge as they enter 6th grade and study Ancient Greece.
Literature is an important cultural aspect that is sometimes overlooked in middle grades.
