Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 19 pre-kindergarten students who are all non-English speaking students and are all mostly from low-income families. They all come from homes where the parents unfortunately do not speak English, and they do not have a role model in order to learn the English language from. My students are energetic little kids who love to learn and are very excited about being in school. However, since my students are all non-English speaking students, they need a lot of visuals and hands-on activities in order to learn and make the learning process more meaningful. Also, due to the lack of knowledge from the part of the parents on how to help their children, I feel that my students need a double dosage of educational fun activities in school in order to be up to par with their counterparts and succeed in school
My Project
My Prekindergarten students are happy little four and five year olds. They are innocent kids who enjoy the fun and enchantment of the Christmas season. I can see the shimmer in their eyes when I talk to them about Santa. Unfortunately, as a new Prekindergarten teacher, I do not have a lot of Christmas related resources to enrich my students with. My students’ parents would love to help but all of my students come from low income homes where unfortunately they do not have the financial means to help out our classroom.
I am asking for a few Christmas story books.
I would love to read these Christmas stories to my students such as “The Night Before Christmas” during the month of December in order to help spark their imagination. At this age, it is essential for students to engage in story time and get exposed to age appropriate literature. My students are all non English speaking students who need the exposure to as many English books as possible. Christmas is of great interest to all young children. Therefore, making Christmas related stories very engaging and meaningful to young English learning students.
I am also asking for a few Christmas decorations like the “Traditional Standing Santa Claus” to put in our classroom. These decorations will definitely bring some Christmas cheer to our Prekindergarten classroom. A lot of my students come from homes where the parents can not afford to buy Christmas trees or Christmas decorations therefore, it would mean so much to me to be able to at least allow my students to enjoy some Christmas spirited decorations in our classroom.
Please help me bring alive the spirit of Christmas in my classroom. Your generous donation will bring a lot of happiness and Christmas cheer the students.
