This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am so excited to begin my new position in the library at our middle school. I am enrolled in a masters program through San Jose State University and am learning about so many ways that libraries are adding areas and items to the library to make the library experience engaging for more students. I want to expand opportunities for our middle school students to interact with the library and with each other in new ways. I will also be working with the social emotional teacher as she works to build social skills for at-risk students who struggle with their emotions in the middle school environment. The library is also a safe place for many special education students to hang out.

The products listed in my cart will add to a Mindfulness station I would like to add to our library.

I also have added items for STEM activities to correlate with our science teachers when the eighth graders build their velocity vehicles. These items will add a supplemental activity for those students who want to take the project a step further and continue to create. There are also discussion starters for students to positively interact with one another and with other adults on campus. I am excited for the weighted plushies. Animals are calming for people and these will be the closest thing to a library pet!

I desire for my library to be the heart of the school, a place for students and teachers to find community and build community in a safe environment. These products will draw students needing to find that safe place.
