My Students

Children in 2014 have technology surrounding them all day. Even the youngest of students walk into the classroom with some sort of technology experience. My class loves to use technology. However it changes rapidly and schools cannot always keep up.

This year my class is made up of both kindergarten and first grade students.

While it can be difficult to manage all that comes with teaching two grades, I really enjoy the challenge. In order to teach my 10 kindergarteners and 14 first graders, I run small group centers throughout the day. Some of the student's most favorite centers are the ones which include technology. One of my favorite things about my school is that it is a small, close-knit, neighborhood school- something that is becoming more and more rare. I love knowing all the children walking around and working with a small team of teachers. I am so lucky. The school and the parent organization have worked hard over the years to fundraise for technology. But as technology keeps evolving the school just can't keep up.

My Project

There are so many curriculum based apps and programs available to use in my classroom. One way to access these resources is by bringing in iPads. Students can use iPads daily throughout the classroom, from the floor to their desks. iPads are easy to incorporate into small group center time. Children will be able to access a variety of curriculum using an iPad. Since iPads are expensive, I was hoping to start with one in my classroom. Students could be in a small group sharing the iPad to complete a task. I would also be able to project whats on the iPad onto my classroom's smart board to use in whole group settings.

My students are so excited to experience different forms of technology.

Their eyes light up when using it. I want to use that excitement to increase their learning. Why not learn and have fun? An iPad in my classroom would allow me to introduce new curriculum based apps and programs in both a small and large group setting.
