My Students
A teacher's dream is to walk into a classroom and see students crowding in the library and excitedly chatting about new books. Then, silence falls over the room as each student is engaged into a new world brought forth by a book. Yet, our classroom library has been constrained by budget cuts.
I teach at an all girls high school in an urban setting.
Many of my students struggle in reading and therefore have difficulty staying engaged in a book. My purpose in this project is to create a high interest and stimulating library to encourage the NEED to READ.
My Project
The library I have curated for my classroom ranges from YALSA Book Awards, classic literature, to high interest reads that are relevant to my students' lives. It is my goal to provide a variety of text in my classroom to keep my students yearning for more! I believe that every child has the potential to LOVE reading if they are able to find that JUST RIGHT book!
As a reading in writing teacher it is imperative that I teach my students to love reading.
I want students to realize the power of reading. I know that igniting the reader within my students will mean great success for many of them in the future. I just need the books to help them to realize the possibilities that lie within the words on each page.
