The Need For Speed: Math Fact Fluency

Help me give my students increased fact fluency by playing games such as Countdown, Sequence Numbers, Snap It Up, and Super Genius.

My Students

The first graders in my classroom are creative, energetic, excited, and lovers of learning. Over the first half of this year, the students have developed a solid foundation of math skills and have enjoyed the process of becoming mathematicians. Now, one of our goals is to increase our fact fluency. We know this is best done with repeated practice!

My first graders are naturally inquisitive, love to play while learning and enjoy social interactions.

My students are developing a growth mind-set and desire to continue their growth as learners.

My Project

Now that my first graders have a solid foundation of mathematical understanding, my goal for them is to grow their mathematical confidence by increasing their math fact fluency.

Young children learn and develop best through play-based learning, interacting with materials, and collaborating with their peers.

Knowing this, I plan to use the games in this project as a consistent, varied, and engaging method of practicing their basic math facts. I see these games being used as reinforcement of skills learned during a math lesson as well as in math stations as consistent practice.

It is my desire to see their confidence grow as their knowledge increases.
