My Project

Hello my name is Ms. Martinez and I teach 9th grade Biology. The materials selected will be used for Biology Labs. The community does not have many green spaces to relax, play, or explore. Hoover High is located close to a major freeway, and traffic is constantly moving in front of the school. I believe that nature can be found anywhere. In our class we utilize the power of observation to examine patterns in nature and inquiry to investigate the biodiversity at Hoover High school.

The science tools will be used for the 9th grade Biology labs to support student learning in ecological systems, human impact on the environment, and the science of nature on our Hoover High campus.

The binoculars will be used to identify bird species and determine bird populations at Hoover High. Birds are considered macrofauna because they are large enough to be able to see with the naked eye, the binoculars help to identify bird species. Using the microscope, students will examine the biodiversity of microorganisms of school's community garden. The microorganisms are considered microfauna because they can only be seen under a microscope. The reel tapes will be used to survey plant species populations in the community garden. The plant populations will indicate the plant biodiversity. The class set of colored pencils will be used to create a dynamic, colorful, and individualized Science Journal of the data collected from the labs.

The students at Hoover High care about their community, the nature around them, and want to make a difference in the world. Students will be sharing their findings of these investigations at our Environment Expo in the Spring of 2025.
