I work in an early childhood special education classroom. Sixty percent of my students have some sort of special needs and the other forty percent are traditional students. They range in age from three to five years old.
My classroom is the first school experience that many of my students will have.
Everything is new and exciting. Every day we enjoy spending time building with blocks, creating artistic masterpieces, engaging in dramatic play, and reading stories. My goal is to make our classroom a magical place that the students love to come to.
My Project
We are always in need of new and fun ways to help our students be successful and meet their goals. One of the ways we do this is by encouraging students to practice through play.
During center time, our students get to practice what they are learning through play.
A doll house is a great way for students to demonstrate real life scenarios through pretend play. Our games, such as Bears in Pairs and Candy Land, help practice academic skills, including position words, counting, and color recognition. They also allow students to work on social skills like taking turns and completing an activity.
All of my students love the challenge of completing a puzzle together with a friend, too!
