Students can discover Asian culture through this fantastic book! Through reading and discussing this book, I want my students to think about how others feel regardless of what they look like. This book encourages students to look within themselves at how each one of us treats other people.
I have an enthusiastic group of learners that love reading and completing projects that inspires them to learn about other places!
My students love to read! However, I genuinely want to get quality literature in their hands that both inspires and requires them to think about how they treat others and how they view themselves in this ever changing world. My students work closely with a group of bilingual students and I believe that this book will help them discover a deeper level of awareness and appreciation for diversity. A great book can both open the mind and the heart. I know that this is a book that can be life changing for my students.
My Project
Can you imagine following the steps of the characters in a great story? If you've ever wanted to jump into the book and be a part of the story then this is a project for you to support!
As my students help to raise silkworms in our classroom as the characters do the same, they will learn many science concepts. Students will keep a journal of their observations and learning.
This book and the projects that I have planned to go with it will ask my students to be the best they can be by treating others with respect while respecting themselves. I believe strongly that this book is a stepping stone into teaching my students about the pain that prejudice causes and ways that each one of us can prevent this type of pain from continuing.
It will be an exciting adventure in many aspects! Please help me stretch the minds and hearts of my students.
